My Dream Job: Global Health Program Officer

A friend sent me this call for a Global Health Program Officer at the National Library of Medicine, pretty much my dream job. I'm not quite eligible at this stage in my career, but my next move in 3-5 years will be to a position similar to this one. Then I'll start looking for a husband, lol. *kidding ;)

This position is located in the National Library of Medicine, Office of the Director, Office of Health Information Programs.

Although the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is the world's largest library of the health sciences, with a collection of more than 7 million items, the Library also conducts research in biomedical communications, creates databases and search tools for molecular biology information resulting from the Human Genome Project, creates specialized information services in the areas of toxicology and environmental health and supports a nationwide network of medical libraries. DUTIES:
As a Global Health Program Officer, you will use your expertise in global health and international activities to:
  • Monitor, study, and evaluate international activities; prepare analytical reports, position papers, and substance-based policy recommendations regarding short- and long-term goals and objectives relating to the information needs of health sciences communities beyond the U.S. borders. 
  • Serve as the primary expert, point of contact, representative of, and liaison for global health and international activities to internal and external, governmental and non-governmental, committees and organizations, including: the NLM Outreach, Consumer Health and Health Disparities Coordinating Committee, Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa, NIH Global Health Working Group, NIH Institute and Center International Representatives Committee, NIH mHealth Working Group, and others. 
  • Play a leadership role in policy development in global health and international activities, drawing from substantive expertise as well as from an understanding of the limits and opportunities that exist in policies that impact the pursuit of NLM priorities. 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify for the position of Global Health Program Officer, GS-601-14, you must possess:

A. A degree in a major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

AND

B. You must have at least one year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: serving as a liaison for international activities related to health initiatives; establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with Government agencies, universities, and other international research institutions; analyzing information and policies on health research programs; preparing reports and presenting briefings to senior staff on health research.
