Pho 14

My sometimes-awesome co-worker/DC-native, Kenny, hipped me to Pho 14, a Vietnamese spot in Columbia Heights. I've never eaten Vietnamese cuisine before and didn't know what to expect but the experience was good.

The place has a cool, trendy vibe. I ordered Thai iced tea, one of my favorite drinks. It was delish and beautiful in a martini glass with a paper umbrella (love those things!). Because we were seated near the kitchen I got another paper umbrella from the storage bin (Score!).

I started my food order with Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls) filled with shrimp, pork, lettuce, bean sprouts, and vermicelli. I should've read the description better because I expected them to be fried and they weren't. They were pretty good, though the texture took some getting used to.

Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup, almost like Ramen noodles but a lot better. I started my Vietnamese experience there, and I'm glad I did! I ordered Pho Tom/Shrimp and the broth was absolutely amazing! Yummy!

I learned that it's incredibly hard to eat noodles with chopsticks. I need to practice. Looks like I'll be visiting more often!

Check out Pho 14 in DC.
