To Color...or Nah?

I'm thinking about coloring my hair, y'all. If I don't do it now, before my loc installation, then I have to wait until after the locs mature and that could take a year or longer. I've never colored my hair and this seems like a perfect time to try it.

But, I want to start with the healthiest locs possible and permanent color is so hard on hair.

What should I do?
