Greek Yogurt Goodness

I haven't always been a fan of Greek Yogurt, but on my mission to gain muscle mass I've come up with a recipe I actually enjoy. Mostly for breakfast or as a snack I'll mix yogurt with a scoop of vanilla-flavored protein powder, a swirl of maple syrup, a bit of finely ground flax seeds, and various fruit mix-ins. Yummy!

Things were golden until this morning.

This morning I was out of maple syrup, a key element in my mix. Bummer! I already spent my weekly food allowance and won't be grocery shopping until Sunday. What's a girl to do?

Then I saw it, a can of cacao powder.

Hmmmm...maybe...

I added a tablespoon. Not very sweet, but divine! Strawberries and banana added a nice balance.

Recipe below (before I forget it!):

Greek Yogurt Goodness (with Cacao)

8 oz Greek Yogurt
1 scoop Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein Powder
1 Tsb Cacao Powder*
1 scoop Finely Ground Flax Seed
1 small banana, sliced
a handful of strawberries, sliced

*I use cocoa powder and cacao powder interchangeably. Cacao powder is rumored to be the healthier of the two and is readily available at Whole Foods, where I shop. I thinks its a bunch of hype. I'll write another post about how friggin inconvenient it is to have Whole Foods as the most accessible grocer. They're so expensive. But...the farmer's market is back and literally just down the block. Happy days!

Because I buy Greek Yogurt by the tub and am typically running for the train when I prep this, I scoop the desired amount into a small, travel-friendly bowl, about 8 oz. of yogurt. Gradually stir in the protein powder, it tends to clump so be careful! Then, add the cacao powder and ground flax seed. I use my protein powder scoop for the flax seeds, it's about 1.5 Tsb. Stir until combined. Gently stir in the fruit slices.

Enjoy!
