Finding a Natural Hair Salon

Practically every meetup I get asked for the best natural hair salon in Baltimore or questions about finding a good stylist.

Hands down, the best salon is Reflection Eternal in Charles Village. The staff is fun and professional and the vibe is bohemian cool.

But, I'm no subject expert. I happened across my stylist by sheer luck--I met a guy at a lounge. He liked my hair. Turns out, he owned a barbershop/salon and introduced me to the salon stylist. She works exclusively with natural hair, knows her stuff, is reasonably priced, and was really nice. And, the shop was just blocks from my place. Perfect!

But, how do you find a salon or stylist if you're new to the city and don't know anyone. Or, if you're newly natural and need a new stylist? My tips below:

1.) Check out forums. Curly Nikki has a salon-finding forum on her site, and there are a tons of natural hair groups on Facebook that'll help you out.
2.) Join a natural hair meetup! Even if you can't attend events, you can post questions on the forums. Head over to meetup.com!
3.) Walk around town. I've noticed that many of the best shops don't have much of a web presence--they've already established a client base and rely on that and word of mouth. But, if you spot something promising and walk in to check things out, they're usually willing to talk with you. And if they're not nice, you probably don't want to do business with them anyway.
4.) Make cool friends. lol. Seriously, people who know people can easily point you to a good stylist or salon.
5.) Google it. I mentioned the lack of web presence for some of the better salons, but that doesn't mean people aren't talking about them. A search for 'the best natural hair salon in Baltimore' or something similar might still lead you to good options.

That's my advice!

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
