| The Batman's response to my plan for both school and work full-time |
I've spent some time thinking about my options and talking to friends who've completed Ph.D.s or are still completing them and I've decided:
1.) I like Information Design. It's new and exciting and more closely aligned with the health sciences librarianship work I've been doing and love. It trumps Health Services Research and Policy...though telling folks I turned down Hopkins will get me the side eye. Whatevs...
2.) I know ID is way more techy than the Health Sciences Librarianship I studied in iSchool. Classes at UB are catered to working professionals, but I expect them to be challenging.
3.) I should take advantage of the certificate program--courses would transfer if I decide to continue with a D.S. and I'd get a taste of working and going to school full-time, without the years of commitment. It'll be a test run--I can make a more definite decision from there.
I was enrolled in a certificate program when I first moved to DC and it sucked--I was always turning down invites to go home and do homework. I hated it, but a part of that was because I had so many other things to worry about--I was also looking for a permanent job, a new apartment, a church, adjusting to a brand new city, etc. I don't think the comparison would be the same.
My Decision:
Get a feel for things with the certificate, then build on that.
