New Librarianship MOOC and Natural Language Processing

Posts have been slow this summer. I've been away a bunch and working hard to transition careers. Lately, I'm intrigued by Natural Language Processing. I find it fascinating with its mix of computer science, linguistics, and statistics. I'm going through an older Coursera course that I signed up for, but never started. I wish I had now, because I'd love to have classmates to bounce ideas off. Maybe it'll come around again.

While I'm on the topic of online courses, the iSchool at Syracuse University is offering a free online class on New Librarianship. They pose this question in the description:

"Libraries have existed for millenia, but today the library field is searching for solid footing in an increasingly fragmented (and increasingly digital) information environment. What is librarianship when it is unmoored from cataloging, books, buildings, and committees?"

I can't wait to voice my opinions and hear what my colleagues have to say. I think moves towards data management or digital librarianship are going to be necessary. It'll be good to hear what others have to say.

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
