My Other, Other Gig: Bridal Editorial Assistant

In addition to being a librarian and writing policy briefings on health information technologies and the underserved, and being a part-time student, I've spent the past six-months in a temp-position, serving as an Editorial Assistant with a bridal magazine. I took the gig because I needed the extra money,  I like writing, and I have a healthy interest in event planning. I'm especially interested and determined to find creative ways to make weddings less expensive, without sacrificing sophistication. For myself, I want something beautiful, fun, and classy--without the 40K price tag. The articles I write generally focus on creating budgets, money-saving habits, best services for your dollar, and DIY projects.

I had the option to stay on permanently if my work suited myself and my employer. It suits me. In fact, its been amazing! Its taught me a ton about event planning and given me a lot of budget-friendly ideas for fun get-togethers, not just weddings. I've been able to rub shoulders and be wooed by high-end vendors, visit new places, stay in really nice hotels, scope out gorgeous and unique venues, and work/play with a team of amazing ladies. Work is project-based so I can set my own hours. Except when we travel, then it's absolute, controlled chaos. I've loved it. This week I was offered a permanent spot on the team and I accepted--with a quickness.

My favorite vendor right now is the Israeli Berta Bridal. Gahh! Such craftsmanship. I really want a fall wedding and they have some of the dopest long-sleeved dress options. A perfect blend of sexy classiness. I love everything about this work from the Winter 2014 collection:

The price doesn't complement my drive for wedding affordability, but a girl can be allowed a couple of indulgences, right? Or maybe I can find it in a sample sale.

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
