Are Macs Worth It?

I've been a Mac owner for nearly a decade--I started grad school with a Macbook that I loved to pieces, literally. I owned it for nearly 6 years before upgrading and it never gave me any serious problems. My 'new' Macbook Pro (I've had it for almost three years now) is super fancy--15" with Retina display, lots of memory, blah blah--I splurged on it because I use it for UX projects and run lots Adobe products with it. But, I kinda hate it.

It worked perfectly for about a year and then started having problems. It started crashing, it was slow, it froze, etc. These problems got increasingly worse until the final straw, I went to turn it on over Christmas break and it wouldn't load at all. This on a computer that cost well over 2K and isn't even three years old. Thank God I had 6 months left on my AppleCare warranty because the entire logic board had to be replaced. That's like learning your 2.5 year old BMW needs a whole new engine--things are pretty much downhill from there. I didn't have to pay anything for the logic board replacement, which was nice, but I just know something else major will pop up after my warranty expires and I'll need a new computer.

I'm disillusioned with Macs but at the same time, I love them--the interface, the operating system, the beauty--and they're the gold standard in the design world.

For now, I'll pray that I don't have any more issues with this computer and it lasts another few years.

What's a girl designer/developer to do?

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
