Un-Belize-able: My Capstone Travel Itenirary

Hi, Guys! I'm traveling to Belize this summer as part of my capstone project to study human-computer interaction and international studies,
focusing on issues related to health communication. I'll be working alongside community activists and an amazing team from the Belize Ministry of Magic Health.

Work hard, play harder. We've been allotted a lot of time to get out and explore--because that is how you really get to know a place. Our itinerary starts in Caye Caulker, a small island off the Belizean coast, for snorkeling and diving. Next up, Placencia on Southern Belize's Caribbean Coast to visit the Gladden Spit Marine Reserve and to shark watch--at night!

Then, what I'm most looking forward to and where I'll spend most of my time--I'll be heading to Dangriga and Hopkins to be introduced to the Garifuna people and culture. The Garifuna blend African, the Caribbean, and Latin American cultures in a way unique to Belize. I've already arranged cooking classes for each night of my stay, and they've promised lots of live drumming and late nights. It's going to be amazing.

Finally, I'll make my way back up to Belize City and the airport in a roundabout way, dropping by San Ignacio town and Ambergris Caye to explore Mayan Cities and caves, visit a nature reserve, hike, kayak, bird watch, horseback ride, etc.

My summer is packed, but Belize is probably my favorite to-do. Definitely the coolest.

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
