A couple of weeks ago I saw the Broadway musical Fela!, at the Warner Theater in DC. It was awesome, a great mix of music, singing, and dancing.

The musical is based on events in the life of Nigerian composer and activist Fela Kuti, when he was the target of government soldiers assigned to end his public performances at the legendary Lagos nightclub, The Shrine. It highlights much of the tension still occurring in the country, apparent in the present day music of Fela's son, Femi Kuti.
I discovered I'm in love with percussion ensembles, and anything with an African rhythm grabs my attention. Enter my new attraction to Capoeira, the Afro-Brazilian martial art. The Capoeira Spot is really convenient for me and I'm seriously considering classes. It's supposed to be an awesome way to de-stress and offers a great workout.
Lots of other stuff popping off around the District-- the Barbados Embassy Rum Tasting and Caribbean Party,Carnaval, Fashion Week...who knew February could be so fun?
Happy Friday peeps! Have a super-amazing weekend.
Hugs and kisses,
