Library Day in the Life Project: Day 2 (Tuesday)

Back to work! A breakdown of my day below:

I arrive at the office around 8:30, grab a cup of tea, check my email, and catch up on the news.

From 9-11, I assume my role as Reference Librarian which basically includes manning a reference desk and assisting students with research and technical questions. Typically, each of the three junior librarians rotate around solo two-hour shifts. Circulation work is covered by two library technicians, so we rarely become overwhelmed.

At 11, I spend time editing my libguide, an online guide created to assist Allied Health Sciences students use library resources. I also catch up on my email and and read through a few work-related listserves.

Lunch at noon and another reference desk shift from 1-3.

From 3-5, I converse with my co-workers about library stuff, mostly our travel plans for the Medical Library Association 2012 Conference in Seattle. The three of us will present posters at the event. I also conduct an individual reference consultation with a dentistry resident and spend time on a journal inventory project I've been working on for the past month.

Overall, it was the standard, relaxed day. I love that about my job!
