Braces--The Beginning (Top)

I wrote about getting braces in a previous post. I'm finally settled in a city with no plans to move for a few years, the Dental School at Howard is amazing, and I get an excellent employee discount--braces seemed like a good move.

I got the top half put on today. I was supposed to get a full set, but apparently one of my bottom separators fell out last week and didn't create enough space. So, its just the top for now, then the bottom half in a week or so.

Getting braces didn't hurt at all. Having my mouth wedged open for an hour was uncomfortable, but no pain! By tomorrow and for the next month or so...it might be a different story.

There is so much going on with my teeth! It's insane! I have four impacted wisdom teeth--all which I should plan to have removed soon, a retained primary tooth--also needs to go, bite issues, and crowding. I'm in for a lot of oral surgery and about 24 months worth of braces-wearing. fun stuff. I was considering the Invisalign system, but after being customized to fit my needs, it would've been too much of a hassle. I'm sticking with the traditional technique.

Anyway, I have big, beautiful teeth and healthy gums and I'm looking forward to an amazing smile in a few months! I'll keep you updated.

Frighteningly close-up pics of my teeth included below.

**Didn't bother doing much with my hair, it's co-washed with Everyday Shea Lavendar Conditioner from Whole Foods and air dried. No head band, no scarf, no tie-back--just let it do its thing. I usually don't rock a wash-n-go--it gets sooo tangled now that my hair is longer--but I was excited about how warm the weather was.

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
