I decided to have the retained tooth pulled...it had to happen eventually...and get braces to close up the gap. I had a few other minor issues--crowding, misalignment, and a problem with my bite.
I've had braces for roughly two months and its been a good experience. A few inconveniences: flossing has turned into a tedious, sorta gross task. I hate it. I can feel when a particular tooth is shifting, my gum gets really sore. Sometimes a tooth will shift and cause the bracket to rub my gum. The solution is to cover the area with a bit of wax...ugh...thankfully that doesn't happen much.
Honestly, I expected worse. I haven't cut anything from my diet, but I'm careful about how I eat certain foods. I still love gummy bears :) It's not as painful as I expected, although I'm still at pretty low gauge wires.
My teeth are responding really well. Depending on how I continue to progress, I may be able to cut my time back from the original estimate of 18 months. Yay!
I still haven't been through Oral Surgery to have my wisdom + retained teeth pulled. My orthodontist will be annoyed :) I've been rescheduled for the first week in June.
I'll update you all with pics after my appointment in two weeks.
Hugs and kisses peeps,
Bethany
