My original Ortho appointment was scheduled for the end of May, but I was in Seattle. I went today instead, so I've waited six weeks between appointments instead of the typical four.

It's my third month in braces, and my teeth are really moving along. Yay!
- Flossing is a necessary evil, especially around the colored bands. It takes forever, but the stains that result if you ignore it...not pretty.
- Ask your orthodontist if you can brush between having your wires replaced. It's so nice to brush and floss almost like normal.
- Expect one or two teeth to be randomly sore at any given time--it's inevitable as your teeth shift
- Things are easier to eat when broken down into bite-sized pieces. It forces you to eat a bit slower, though I find that I chew each bite a lot less.
- I eat a lot less...a downer for me because I'm supposed to be increasing calories and I'm a foodie. I've lost three pounds of weight that I need. I worked by butt off to hit 110, now I have to figure out how to get back there. 'Just eat more!', right? If only it were that easy...
I had my top and bottom wires replaced with heavier guages--it's the second upgrade for the bottom wires, the first for the top ones. I could feel the difference as soon as they were put on, they're much tighter--like a bear hug for my teeth. Hopefully I'll adjust quickly, without too much discomfort.
I'll probably be in braces for 18 months, as expected.
I was bummed to find out that my orthodontist will only be around for another year. After that, he'll be done with his residency and I'll be in the hands of someone else. I really like him so that thought makes me sad. Alas, one downer of choosing treatment at a medical school. But, I should be close to finished by then, so I'm not too worried.
After quite a few reschedules, I'm finally going to have my wisdom teeth and one retained primary tooth extracted on Friday. I'll be cleaning my house and taking care of laundry tonight so I can spend the weekend reading, watching TV, and eating soup. Speaking of reading, I'm finally getting around to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've been in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy mood lately.
