A Hair Club Update

I host a monthly hair club meetup, Baltimore's Naturals Hair Club. Yes, we meet to mostly discuss hair, though other topics often slip into the convos.

Can hair possibly be that interesting, you ask.

Why yes, it can...and is. Especially if it's super thick, curly hair and you have no idea how to handle it or how to try a new style or you just want to know if that trending $50/jar of hair butter is worth the investment or if that $80/kit of Curlformers will actually curl your hair or if you'll need two kits...or three.

See what I mean?

Anyway, BNHC has existed since January 2011. We launched on Meetup.com in April 2011--that move made us way more visible and really increased our numbers, and we've had a consistent following of naturalistas since then.

While our standard meetup is a bunch of naturalistas chatting over brunch, we've done all types of things--wine festivals, product making workshops, hair care sessions, invited a few guys into the fold for their opinions, and more. It's been good. We recently got to mix things up even more by introducing a series of live hair styling sessions, starting with techniques for parting natural hair.

I'm so pleased with the direction of the club. My current goals for future events include emphasizing our mission to create friendships. I hope to plan more events that allow us to connect more closely than chatting while we eat. I don't have anything specific planned, but I'm thinking about it. In the meantime, I'm doing what I can to make our mini-series on styling a success and planning events as usual.

Check out the club here!

Hugs and kisses peeps!

Bethany
