This autumn has been great--I went hiking and apple picking, made Smores over a bonfire, stargazed, chilled at the lake, won free oysters from Ryleigh's, actually participated in Homecoming at Howard (fun!), watched my hair club grow, watched my hair grow (it's taken off like crazy!), met a few cool librarians, chaired my first committee, met with my financial adviser to sketch out a plan to buy a home in DC proper (never thought that would happen!) and got to hang out with some amazing people from all over.
I think that last part--hanging with amazing people--has been the most fun. Confessions: I spent too long hanging with people who wanted to use me for their personal gains. One of the downsides of life in a city of professionals is that people generally want to know how you can get them what they want. I wasn't too blind to see that, I just chose to ignore it. Can we pause there--because when you know something is bad for you and you choose to repeatedly do it anyway, you can't really blame anyone but yourself when the bottom falls out. I can't explain why I wanted to hang on to relationships that were so one sided. Huge mistake, lesson learned.
As soon as I decided I deserved better, I got better. Funny how that works. And it helps to have a friend that isn't afraid to hit you with the hard truth when you need it. I really lucked out there :)
Anyway, having good friends is a beautiful thing. It makes me happy. As does Autumn and the awesome weather we've had (it's ending *tear*). But threats of storms and horrible weather are sort of countered by the holidays--it's already the end of October and they're right around the corner, omg!
Hugs and kisses peeps,
Bethany
