| Oh, hey one especially squiggly curl! |
The Good: My ortho thinks that my treatment will be complete by June. That's great news because it means that I'll be done in 15 months instead of 18, the original prediction. It also means that I won't have to transition to a new resident--my ortho completes his residency in June, so if I go longer than that I'll have to get a newby doctor to finish things up. I'm not a fan of that idea--I like my orthodontist.
The Bad: I picked up this nasty habit of drinking black coffee, and trust me, it stains your teeth. I recently dropped the habit, but the tell-tell signs, i.e. stains, are still lingering. Bummer. Peroxide rinses are starting to help.
It still takes me about 15 minutes to brush and floss at night.
And, for the first time ever, my brackets have shifted to a position where they constantly cut into my lip in one place. I try to use dental wax, but mostly there's just a huge gash in my gum where that happens. It hurts :(
The Ugly: Everything on my top row is gappy. I'm not a fan. I'm sure everything will tighten up soon, but I have to wait for it. My ortho gave me this quizzical look when I mentioned it and said "You'll have gaps, your teeth have to shift to fill in that hole from your primary tooth. It won't stay like that." I know, but I look like a twelve-year old kid. Alas, patience is a virtue and I often feel less than virtuous :)
This month I kept the same gauge wire, just got new bands and new elastic chains. One tooth is being rebellious and decided to start turning back to its rotated position, so I've got a wire tie for it. I kept my copper colored bands--I like them :)
I got kudos for being a good patient--keeping my appointments, being on time, and not breaking brackets :-D Hope I can keep it up.
What's left--up top, half my teeth are shifting to the left, the other half to the right. The hole from my retained tooth should be gone by March. Then the whole row will be pulled back and bunched back together, and I should be done by June. The bottom row is basically straight.
