On the Up and Up

I had a thought provoking conversation with a few friends yesterday that left me with a lot to think about. We talked about being successful and single--how easy it is to focus on perfecting yourself, about becoming too comfortable, and about how we can become better agents of change in our community.

The conversation really struck me because for the past couple of years, my focus has been almost exclusively concentrated on myself and my career. I know it's time for me to take some of the initiatives and relationships I'm involved in to the next level, but I've been running from the commitment.

Another truth I've found is that its easy to forget how real the struggle is once you're securely removed from it. It's easy to ignore--even if you live at the brink of the hood and walk past it every day. To realize that the desperate penny pinching I did for two months between jobs--a time I mark as one of the lowest, most depressing points of my life, is an every day reality for so many people.

Funny we should have this conversation just as I'm beginning a career transition. I'm definitely still going on with that, but it was good to have a reminder where my priorities should lie. I get distracted sometimes :)

SN: I'd love to take a hot air balloon ride. It looks like fun. Maybe this spring :)

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
