I'm going back to school for Information and Interaction Design (IID) and while the degree is closely linked to my graduate studies in Library and Information Science, the demographics of the two fields are totally different. Most notable--there aren't many women in STEM fields (IID is a branch of technology).
One perk, so far, is the range of scholarship opportunities--I've been applying like crazy. More long term though, I can pretty much count on working alongside men. That could be interesting. It'll certainly be different.
