The Decision

From a couple of days ago. I forgot to post it...ooops!

I finally made my decision. Many thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Most of you were crazy supportive and I really appreciate that. Some of you questioned the sacrifices--if it was worth it. I got it from both ends of the spectrum and I love you all so much for being honest and giving me things to think about!

I really want to teach at the college level. The past two years in the classroom have taught me that--I've loved it. And, I'm fascinated by the intersection of Public Health and Information Technology. I want to learn more about it.  My current Master degrees in Information Science and Health Communication won't get me where I want to be. The star I'm shooting for is a tenured faculty position at a large university...and probably a bit of freelance IA work as a side income.

My rocket?

The Health Services Research and Policy doctoral program at Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health, possibly accompanied by a certificate program in Information Design at the University of Baltimore, which I can complete at my leisure--that will probably equate to an additional night or online class each semester.

That's the plan. Dream big or go home, right?

There will be sacrifices--time, an apartment I love, DC--the city that brought me out of the South...kinda ;) More motivation to make this thing work.

Anyway, it's 6:38 am here and I'm just getting in. Can you guess where I am from that last post?

Yup, the beautiful Brazilian capital of Rio. Living the good life--slumbering away in an apartment worthy of a goddess, eating really good food, sipping fresh fruit juice all day, soaking up the sun, and partying like a rockstar (in prescription shades 24/7 because one of my contacts fell into the ocean!).

It's literally party all night and sleep all day here.

Good morning, peeps! I'm off to bed.

Hugs and kisses,

Bethany
