After five days of partying, it's Ash Wednesday--the beginning of Lent. The fun is over and weeks of sacrificing begin today.Written out, it seems a bit hypocritical--using the days before sacrifice to splurge. But, I experienced a new culture, built on a meaningful friendship, and generally stayed out of trouble. I'm glad I did it.
I'm hoping my sacrifices over the next few weeks will help bring me to a closer state of spiritual contentedness. My ego could use a check. No TV or secular music/literature for a bit and I'm limiting my news to the radio and newspaper. I'm right in the middle of writing a gazillion scholarship applications, so I'll be working on those but hopefully not letting them consume me :)
SN: I'm not Catholic! They are not the only people who observe Lent--it's actually a general Christian thing, just like Easter.Wikipedia it or something.
