Hey party people!
I've been 27 for two weeks! Sweet :)
One more week of exams, then it's back to life as usual for me...phew! This semester has been busy.
I have lots of fun events in the weeks ahead--I'm spending next week at a library conference, then heading home to see my younger brother graduate, then spending a week in intensive language training to prep me for my trip to Tanzania, then I'm packing up my stuff and moving--my new place is just down the road, but most of my things still need to be boxed up. I hate packing. Luckily, I've got a crew of ladies to help me box things up and a few strapping young-ish gentleman for the grunt work. Friends :)
My new place is super extra dope--even closer to the train station than I am currently, has a gorgeous rooftop deck, in-house washer/dryer, a huge kitchen, 2 large bedrooms, 2 baths, is on the purple Circulator route and on the Hopkins route, and best of all, it's super affordable. It's like a miracle--seriously--I'm calling it my divine intervention spot :) Can you tell I love it? My roommate and I decided we'll be hosting out butts off.
Of course, there has to be balance to the goodness. Among other things, I found out I'll be in braces another 8 months. Turns out that huge cavern is closing a lot slower than my orthodontist anticipated. I would post pictures, but I get angry every time I see it. Grr. Also, my dermatologist and I finally conceded that the off/on eczema I've had since teen-hood isn't genetic, that it's likely an allergic reaction to something. I have to visit an allergist and have 1001 tests run. Bummer. I'm hoping she doesn't tell me something horrible, like I have to live gluten-free. That would be tragic. Yikes. Luckily, she doesn't think it's anything in my diet, probably something environmental.
What else worth sharing...
I've decided not to buy a car. The Batman is also moving into the city, we're actually going to be in the same hood, and he's agreed to let me borrow his whip when I need it. More importantly, he put me on his insurance plan, which makes me feel a lot more comfortable driving it. Aww shucks ;)
I have several domestic trips planned for the summer-- Charleston, New York, Boston, and Houston. Internationally, I'm headed back to Dominica and maybe a few other Eastern Caribbean islands, still to be decided; then finally, Bali, for an end -of-summer wedding.
Business is booming. Just kidding. It is thriving, but I've decided to take only one project, and focus the rest of my attention on learning how to nurture a tech start-up. There are lots of resources for people who code, more for women who code, and even more for minorities who code. I'm focusing on training and figuring out the best ways to make grant money work for me--a huge part of that is having a vision for my company. I'm working on that.
Bethany McGowan Designs shot Baltimore's Naturals Hair Club in the foot. It's been hobbling along, but I'm looking for someone to help organize events. After 2+ years, I'm losing motivation. Sad. I want to see it live without me, and I'm hoping it can. We'll see.
School starts in September. I decided to take a pre-req course in Basic Programming over the summer, as a refresher. It's online, so I have some flexibility. I'm really excited about it!
I've been reading Stephen Kings' Dark Tower series, I'm on Book 3 of the series now, after pits stops with The Stand and It. They've been delightfully creepy.
Hugs and kisses peeps,
Bethany
