Home Buying Abroad: Dominica

I'm seriously considering buying a home in Dominica--I love the island and the people,
and it could be a great vacation home and/or income earner. I've been considering buying casually and pushing the idea from my head. It makes more sense for me to buy a domestic home first. But, I can't get away from the idea. Dominica keeps dropping into my life--I met the ambassador at a meetup, one of my students sent me a request for research on the island, it popped up as a Living Social deal, and we passed right by the Consulate's Office when I was exploring NYC. All this from a tiny West Indie island I never even heard of a year or two ago. I can't ignore the signs and I won't exactly need a domestic home if I marry a homeowner. Maybe there's a plan for me--I like that idea :)

I know nothing about owning a home abroad, but I do know a few Dominicans and I'm an expert at finding information. I'm going to start with a visit to the DC embassy and a bit of online research, and go from there.
