It's official--I love Brazil. Picked up a few new obsessions:
.) Angola--People thought I was Angolan and couldn't understand why I wasn't speaking Portuguese. Now I want to visit! A friend says I have South African features, whatever that means. Funny because my Kenyan friends like to claim me as East African. I hail from the American South, so I'm pretty sure my roots lie somewhere in West Africa.
.) Fro Love--I wore my fro big and stretched out some, but still mostly curly. It was a huge hit! People were taking pics of and with us chilling on the beach--I think they thought we were famous, stopping us on the beaches and streets, catcalling. And best of all, one night while strolling the beach this young girl was clearly amazed--"Oh my God, look at her hair!", she said (As translated by a Portuguese-speaking friend). That pretty much made my trip. Guys would stop and ask for pictures. Women asked how I did it. I felt so incredibly beautiful. It was so unexpected! A girl could get used to that :)

.) Panama--I had a layover in Panama that left me longing to stay for a while. Flying over was absolutely gorgeous. Add that to the list.
.) Guava--I'm addicted. Fresh squeezed guava-pineapple juice was my absolute favorite. The fruit by itself was delicious too.
.) Foreign Service Officers--such a cool job, and a fun bunch of people. I loved chatting with them. We added an American element to the trip with a Halloween party :)
.) Surfing--the girls at Ipanema Beach were super sexy in their wet suits and the surf in Brazil looked amazing. I really want to learn. Plus the water was freezing and their suits looked a lot warmer than my swimsuit.
.) Samba--late night dancing, munching down pastels, and strolling the beach at dawn with beach-booth crafted Caipirinhas (the best!) and coconut water. Good times.
.) MileagePlus--racking up the frequent flyer miles! I'm all about free stuff, thanks United.
.) Party Flats--I made the mistake of rocking a pair of orange suede stilettos the first night, and while I got the attention of a certain American diplomat, no one else had on heels! They killed it in sandals and flip flops. I left the party ready to throw my shoes in the ocean. I can get with the dance flat movement.
