Back Up On My Grind

#processing
That title is wishful thinking because I've been so off my game this week. Somehow I managed to
miss the first meeting for one of my classes and my sleep schedule is off. But, I'm shrugging all that off because I have big plans for this year:

1. Work as usual--still doing my librarian thing and loving it. Its low stress and a great career for transitioning professionals.

2. School. I'm taking two classes this semester--Information Architecture and Sequential Visualization and Analysis. The visualization class requires a working knowledge of Javascript so I've been teaching myself.

3. More School. We have excellent benefits at HU--one is that full-time employees can take up to 7 free credit hours per semester and classes can be taken during work hours. I've taken classes on Afro-Carbibean Culture and Politics, Politics in East Africa, Spanish, and Swahili, but I couldn't figure out a program that tied all my interests together. This year the university introduced a Graduate Certificate in International Studies that is perfect. I don't have to commit to a full graduate program and I have more control over course selection. And, the Capstone is a study abroad. So exciting!

4. Community Involvement. I joined the Urban League. Its the place to be for community involvement in underserved communities. And the quality of single men is unprecedented for DC--so many cuties.

5. Toastmasters. One of the best blends of personal and professional development I've experienced. I've met so many great people from so many walks of life, and I'm much more comfortable speaking in front of people.

6. Travel. One of my besties finished a Rangel Fellowship, joined the Foreign Service, and moved to Mexico City. I will be visiting ;)
