Do Sumn: Aerial Yoga and Barre

Last May I was kicking butts and taking names with a nice, structured gym regimen. I had the body of a goddess--a 5'2" goddess--and was pleased to reach my goal weight of 115 in just a couple of months. Everything good.

For the past four months though, I've hardly hit the gym. I did yoga for a bit, but after a trial run, I dropped it. In fact, I've fallen completely off the wagon, skipping breakfast and eating out all the time. My diet has been a huge splurge. I started feeling sluggish and to top things off, I've noticed that my previously gloriously sculpted abs are beginning to look a little pouchy. #gah #ahhh #ohno

My schedule has been packed and it's been easy to quit the gym. But, it is my favorite and most effective stress buster. I miss it.

I have to do something, so I pulled up the Y Calendar of group classes for this quarter. I want to try aerial yoga and barre. I am very interested in developing a strong core and the perfect butt, and I think this combo will work for me. Plus, both classes offer relaxing workouts--perfect for de-stressing after work.

Aerial Yoga:  A smooth merger of playful acrobatics and yoga, that allows practitioners to sink into their practice more quickly, to deepen stretches, to find proper alignment naturally, and to reap the benefits of inversions without strain on the joints of the body.

Barre: An elegant, but challenging series of ballet-barre and Pilates postures targeting the thighs, seat and core. These fluid exercises are designed to help you sculpt & tone your way to a dancer-style body.

If you live or work in DC, the Anthony Bowen YMCA is amazing. It is beautiful, and the people and classes are diverse. Check them out!

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
