Lillyhammer, Pho, Humidifiers and Other Sick Day Things

I turned the heat on in my apartment this week and consequently caught a cold. The heating system
leaves zero moisture in the air and wreaks havoc on my sinuses. I woke up with Tuesday with a scratchy throat and by the end of the week things had progressed to me being a sneezy, coughing helpless mass.  Wednesday and Thursday I went to work doped up on Dayquil and Friday I called out.

The sad thing is that I know the air in my apartment is dry in the winter. I know I need to buy a humidifier. I've been knowing that. But have I? Nope. Two reasons:

1. Humidifiers attract mildew a little to easily for my liking--they can be gross. I did some Googling and figured I can solve this issue by adding a bit of vinegar to the water and covering the vinegar-y smell with an essential oil. Problem solved.

2. Every time I was ready to put down the dollars for a humidifier, I would get distracted by something cool and shiny. Now I'm sick and paying for not having one. In the midst of being laid up and infirmed Friday, I hopped on Alibaba and ordered a very cute, giraffe-themed humidifier. Alibaba is the Chinese version of Amazon, but much bigger.

On a fun note, Netflix dropped the new season of Lillyhammer and I got to spend a lot of the day watching it. I got through 4 episodes and I think this might be the best season so far. I do not remember laughing so much through previous episodes.

Sick days are the perfect days for pho so I bundled up and headed to my neighborhood Pho spot, Indochine. I ordered a large Combination bowl, topped it off with herb salad and Sriracha, and downed half of it for lunch, then the rest for dinner. I was hungry and it was wonderful. The Pho at Indochine is good-not terrible, but not great. I'm spoiled because one of my Korean friends makes and shares amazing Pho--I know Pho isn't Korean, but she really does her thing. I can't exactly call her up to whip up a batch of Pho on demand though, so Indochine was great.

As far as sick days go, it could've been worse. I feel a lot better today. I'm slightly Pho obsessed now--I need to figure out how to make it. #yum

Hugs and kisses peeps,

Bethany
