Planning because my whole life is changing, in a good way, but still changing, and I need some hold on how I want things to go.
I bought a car. The loan specialist at my credit union--shoutout to Department of Commerce FCU--was amazing. I got my loan at a great rate and she held my hand through the tedious process of buying and insuring a car from an out-of-state, private buyer. Not a fun process, but we did it! I'm now the proud owner of a bright yellow Wrangler X Unlimited 4x4. In a previous post I worried it might do terribly in an accident, but this thing is a tank--I feel so superior driving it. #wayupifeelblessed I have to learn how drive it though, because it's a lot different from a sedan.
Plans for car--surf trips!, road trips to see the midwest, tour some national parks!
West Lafayette. How to get used to being the only chocolate chunk morsel when you hail from the south and spent your early career in vibrant, diverse DC. And I will have to accept that most of my friends will be Purdue faculty.
Plans for West Lafayette--make new friends! and grow a small herb garden--basil and thyme, not the other stuff #newapartmenthasadeck
Purdue. It's funny because I seriously considered Indiana University for a Ph.D. last year because I wanted to teach, now I've joined the faculty at Purdue. #irony
Plans for Purdue--get tenure, teach and present and research and write! Collaborate with the Black Cultural Center Library on something fun, and become the subject expert on health literacy and health communication
Retail Therapy. I am getting rid of so much stuff. I moved four months ago and got rid of a lot then, but I'm going purge crazy again. Still there are things I need to but--a good winter coat, gaps in my wardrobe that need to be filled, a couple of furniture pieces, artwork.
Plans for shopping--LL Bean and Ikea runs, and find some artwork. Artwork==travel
Save some dough. Throw some mo'. I'm about to hit 30 and a part of me wants to spend the next year doing whatever I want. Just for the next year, because 30 only comes around once. Yo. It it sobering. I am sobered. I spent my mid-20's saving and being fiscally conservative. I've done well for myself. 29-30 is going to be for fun.
Travel. I decided to focus my travel on a hobby--surfing. I love that surf life is all about strength, concentration, and swimming--things I care about. Even when I'm not on the waves I can practice my meditation, weight lifting, and swimming. And I'm a part of this wee, little network of black surfers. We are the coolest, most beautiful people ever. On the real, you only need to see a King or Queen master a wave once to convince you that I'm right. It's a beautiful thing.
