Brooklyn on my Tiptoes

I've been stanning AfroPunk for some years now--this was my fourth year attending AfroPunk Fest and it's been so cool watching it grow. This year I was invited to the AfroPunk Fancy Dress Ball, a pre-festival party featuring the legendary Grace Jones. It's not often I get to play drama dress up, pick my fro out as wide as it'll go, and be surrounded by other beautiful people who look like me. Fashion was crazy and I got the huge dose of melanin I needed to help me get through a West Lafayette winter.

"We are partying with a purpose in support of The AFROPUNK Global Initiative an alliance dedicated to re-calibrating the scales of justice. The goal is to create unique programming that encourages diversity in media; broader access to the arts; and a strong giveback to our communities through volunteer service."
