Hi, Guys!
It's been a while since I've done a 'real' blog post, but I have some free time now, so here's an update.
At work, I've come up with a research agenda. I'm interested in health information literacy, consumer health IT design, and behavior change communication. Basically, how health information can be presented in ways that lead to healthy decision making; especially in digital environments. I'm also interested in health equity and community involvement, and this Spring I'll be teaching Health Education at one of the local high schools. I'm so thrilled at how welcoming the community has been and I can't wait to see where things go.
Having a focused research agenda means business travel to all the fun places. Between school and work, I've been lucky enough to get great funding, so I can go to all the cool places :) On my agenda for 2016:
UXCampDC (January)
HxRefactored 2016 in Boston (April)
Future of Web Design London 2016 (April)
IA Summit 2016 in Atlanta (May)

10th International Conference on Design & Emotion in Amsterdam (September)
Midwest UX Conference 2016 in Louisville (October)
REVOLVE Conference 2016 in Charleston (October)
I have 3 international conferences planned for next year! #gah London, just in time for my birthday, plus Italy and the Netherlands.
Life stuff.
Lafayette is a typical small town--quiet and slow. During the week I go to work, hit the gym a couple of evenings, go to class a couple of evenings, study at the public library or study at home, cook dinner, Netflix. My weekdays are boring.
Weekends, though. I can not stay away from Chicago. It's the perfect counter to my M-F life--great food, beautiful places, fun and diverse people, shopping, nightlife, great food. lol. This fall has been gorgeous--it's still not very cold and not a hint of snow. Sometimes, I go to Indianapolis, where I have discovered the best, most authentic Thai spot. I've even been down to Columbus a couple of times, visiting new friends at Ohio State.
My biggest complaint is that I still haven't found a local church--everything in Lafayette leans heavily towards the conservative side. I guess that's to be expected and I'm still looking for a solution.
That's my life in a nutshell.
Hugs and kisses peeps,
Bethany
